Eurovision Song Contest The Netherlands 2020

The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was planned to be the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It would have taken place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, following the country’s victory at the 2019 contest with the song Arcade by Duncan Laurence.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the contest was cancelled for the first time in its history in March 2020 after all 41 competing artists and songs were already confirmed. EBU and its Dutch members organised a remplacement show called Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light to showcase the selected entries. The competition itself was postponed until next year but according to the rules the songs selected for the 2020 contest were not eligible for the next year’s competition. However, 26 countries decided to send the same artist with a new song in 2021.
