After Marie Myriam won the Eurovision Song Contest 1977 in United Kingdom with the song called L'oiseau Et L'enfant , Eurovision Song Contest 1978 took place in Paris, France . This was the third time France hosted the competition. Total of 20 countries participated. The winner of the competition was Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta from Israel with the song called Abanibi. The song gained total of 157 points. This was the first Eurovision Song Contest victory to Israel.
