After Dima Bilan won the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Serbia with the song called Believe , Eurovision Song Contest 2009 took place in Moscow, Russia . This was the first time Russia hosted the competition. Total of 42 countries participated. The first Semi-Final was held on May 12 and the second Semi-Final was held on May 14. The winner was selected on the Grand Final on May 16. The winner of the competition was Alexander Rybak from Norway with the song called Fairytale. The song gained total of 379 points. This was the third Eurovision Song Contest victory to Norway.
