After Eimear Quinn won the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 in Norway with the song called The Voice , Eurovision Song Contest 1997 took place in Dublin, Ireland . This was the seventh time Ireland hosted the competition. Total of 25 countries participated. The winner of the competition was Katrina and The Waves from United Kingdom with the song called Love Shine A Light. The song gained total of 227 points. This was the fifth Eurovision Song Contest victory to United Kingdom.
