After Katrina and The Waves won the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 in Ireland with the song called Love Shine A Light , Eurovision Song Contest 1998 took place in Birmingham, United Kingdom . This was the eighth time United Kingdom hosted the competition. Total of 25 countries participated. The winner of the competition was Dana International from Israel with the song called Diva. The song gained total of 172 points. This was the third Eurovision Song Contest victory to Israel.
