After Helena Paparizou won the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Ukraine with the song called My Number One , Eurovision Song Contest 2006 took place in Athens, Greece . This was the first time Greece hosted the competition. Total of 37 countries participated. The first Semi-Final was held on May 18. The winner was selected on the Grand Final on May 20. The winner of the competition was Lordi from Finland with the song called Hard Rock Hallelujah. The song gained total of 292 points. This was the first Eurovision Song Contest victory to Finland.
